La monnaie du Japon commémore le programme de train à grande vitesse japonais appelé Shinkansen. Initié en 1959, la première ligne entre Tokyo et Osaka est inaugurée en 1964 à l’occasion des Jeux Olympiques de Tokyo. Depuis de nouvelles lignes ont été construites et l’expansion du réseau se poursuit.La ligne Shinkansen Kyochu est une ligne à grande vitesse mise en service entre 2004 et 2011 reliant la ville de Fukuoka à la ville de Kagoshima.
