Commento
The Monumental Communal Cemetery of Campo Verano, colloquially known as the Verano (Italian: Cimitero comunale monumentale Campo Verano), is the communal and monumental cemetery of the city of Rome, located in the Tiburtino district, near the San Lorenzo area and the Basilica of San Lorenzo. The name Verano comes from the ancient field of the Verani, a gens senatoria in the times of the Roman Republic. The entrance to the cemetery is characterized by three arches containing four large statues representing Meditation, Hope, Charity and Silence: from left to right: the first and third statues are works by Francesco Fabi-Altini; the second by Stefano Galletti; the fourth by Giuseppe Blasetti, preceded by a large portico by Vespignani, completed in 1880
