Commento

Poids léger. Le bouclier est orné d’un cavalier galopant à droite. Notre exemplaire appartient à la série la plus lourde des folles frappée entre l’an 12 et l’an 15 (538/539 et 541/542). Ce type avec la tête gonflée de Justinien Ier fait peut-être référence à la peste que l’empereur attrapa en 542. H. Pottier a relevé des folles avec ce type de visage pour les années 15 et 16 (541/542 et 542/543). Nous sommes ici en présence d’un follis de l’an 14 (540-541) qui présente les mêmes caractérisitques au niveau du portrait. Cette variété semble beaucoup plus rare que les folles avec la tête normale.
