Descrittivo diritto : Bucrane accosté de deux esses, une croisette entre les cornes ; un grènetis en descendant d’une corne à l’autre et bourrelet périphérique.

Commento
Ce potin est très rare ; seulement connu par un exemplaire au musée de Zurich et de très rares en collections privées, c’est la troisième fois que nous le proposons à la vente.
Le prototype du droit est clairement le potin des Rèmes au bucrane, lui-même inspiré du rare sesterce de Caius Antius Restio frappé vers 45 avant J.-C. Le revers au cheval n’a rien à voir avec l’ours du potin des Rèmes.
Le cavalier supposé n’est pas visible sur le n° 275 de Zurich (lui-même repris en dessin par A. Gaumann pour son n° 176). Le n° 24.5 de H. Patat correspond à notre monnaie, mais le cavalier pourrait n’être qu’une interprétation à partir de globules qui auraient fusé entre eux....
This potin is very rare; only known from a example in the Zurich museum and very rare ones in private collections, this is the third time that we have offered it for sale. The prototype of the law is clearly the Remi potin on the bucrane, itself inspired by the rare sestertius of Caius Antius Restio struck around 45 BC. The reverse on the horse has nothing to do with the bear of the potin of the Remes. The supposed rider is not visible on number 275 of Zurich (itself used in drawing by A. Gaumann for his number 176). No. 24.5 by H. Patat corresponds to our coin, but the rider could only be an interpretation based on globules which would have merged between them...

GALLIA - BITURIGES CUBI (Regione di Bourges)
(II - I secolo a.C.)
I Cubi Biturigi erano uno dei popoli più potenti dei Celti. Il loro territorio si estendeva su parte del Bourbonnais, Touraine e Berry, gli attuali dipartimenti di Cher, Indre e parte dell'Allier. La loro capitale era l'oppidum di Avaricum (Bourges). La Loira li separava dagli Edui e dai Carnuti. Avevano anche per vicini i Picton, i Lémovice e gli Arvernes. Secondo il racconto di Livio, re dei Biturigi, Ambigat avrebbe regnato su tutta la Gallia unificata nel VI secolo a.C.. -VS. e avrebbe mandato i suoi due nipoti, Bellovèse e Sigovèse, l'uno in Italia, l'altro in Oriente, a fondare l'Impero Gallico che, un secolo dopo, si estendeva su Gran Bretagna, Europa centrale (esclusa la Svizzera), Italia settentrionale e gran parte del il Danubio. Prima delle guerre galliche, i Biturigi sarebbero stati clienti degli Edui e sul loro territorio si sarebbe insediato un contingente di Boii.. La loro principale ricchezza proveniva dall'allevamento di animali e dall'estrazione del ferro che aveva portato loro ricchezza e prosperità.. Nel 52 a.C. -VS. , hanno sostenuto Vercingetorige. Furono sconfitti a Genabum (Orleans) da Cesare. Vercingetorige li incoraggiò a praticare la tecnica della terra bruciata. Distrussero così più di venti oppida, ma rifiutarono la stessa sorte alla loro capitale, Avaricum (Bourges). Cesare venne ad assediare l'oppidum, difeso da trentamila Biturigi e diecimila alleati. La città fu presa e bruciata, solo ottocento soldati riuscirono a fuggire, mentre la guarnigione e la popolazione furono massacrate.. Cesare vi trovò abbondanti riserve che gli permisero di trascorrere l'inverno e preparare la campagna per la primavera successiva.. Tuttavia, i Biturigi avrebbero comunque fornito un contingente di dodicimila uomini all'esercito di soccorso della coalizione gallica, durante l'assedio di Alésia. All'inizio del 51 a.C. -VS. , Cesare guidò una nuova campagna tra i Biturigi che si sottomisero molto rapidamente. Poche settimane dopo, intervennero con Cesare per combattere contro i Carnuti. Cesare (BG. Io, 18; VII, 5, 8, 9, 11-13, 15, 21, 29, 75, 90, VIII, 2, 3, 4, 11). Strabone (g. VI, 2). Livio (HR. V, 34, 35). Plinio (HN. , IV. 109). Tolomeo (g. II, 7).
