Descrittivo rovescio : Cavalier levant les bras à droite, entre deux annelets pointés ; une esse entre les jambes ; la légende au-dessus de la tête du cheval, devant le cavalier.
Commento
Cet exemplaire présente normalement la légende VIROS en bord de flan devant le visage. Le centrage de l’exemplaire du British Museum (repris par S. Scheers et aussi dans le Nouvel Atlas en moulage colorisé) ne permettait pas de la distinguer.
Dans son inventaire, S. Scheers ne répertoriait que 12 exemplaires ; 7 à la BN, 2 à Bruxelles, un à Douai, un autre à Namur et celui de Londres.
Ce type de bronze reste rare sur le marché. Le beau bronze bga_261066 de CELTIC II avait été vendu 450€.

Les Nerviens appartengono al grande gruppo belga. Il loro territorio era molto vasto e si estendeva nel nord dell'attuale Belgio, situato tra la Schelda e la Sambre. I loro vicini erano i Menapi, gli Eburoni, i Remi, i Bellovaci, i Viromandui e gli Atrebati.. Avevano diversi popoli clienti tra cui i Ceutron e i Lévaques. Nel 57 a.C. -VS. , hanno fornito un contingente di cinquantamila uomini alla coalizione belga, guidata dai Bellovaques. César li descrive come "i più feroci dei belgi". Furono sconfitti nella battaglia della Sambre e decimati. Solo cinquecento guerrieri sarebbero sopravvissuti sui sessantamila impegnati. Si sottomisero e ricevettero la protezione dei romani, che non li impedì, nel 54 a.C. -VS. , per unirsi alla sedizione di Ambiorix, condottiero di Eburon che si ribellò a Cesare e assediò Quinto Cicerone, che fu finalmente liberato dal suo condottiero.
