Gerald Rudolph Ford (1913-2006) est le 38e président des États-Unis d’Amérique de 1974 à 1977. Né Leslie Lynch King, Jr, il prit le nom de son beau-père en 1916. Après ses études secondaires, ses qualités de joueur de football américain lui ouvrent les portes de l’Université du Michigan. Par la suite, il fera son droit à Yale. Pendant la guerre, il sert dans la Marine. Jeune avocat, il s’engage dans le parti républicain et est élu à la Chambre des Représentants pour le district de Grand Rapids. En 1973, il devient président du Sénat. Le 6 décembre 1973, il remplace le vice-président Spiro Agnew, démissionnaire suite à une affaire d’évasion fiscale et de corruption. Il devient président des États-Unis, le 9 août 1974 suite à la démission de Richard Nixon. Sous son cours mandat, les dernières troupes américaines sont retirées du Viêt-nam. Lors de l’élection de 1976, il arrache l’investiture républicaine face à Ronald Reagan. Son incapacité à faire à la crise économique et la grâce controversée de Richard Nixon contribuent à sa défaire. Le démocrate Jimmy Carter lui succède.

In the 1976 election, he won the Republican nomination against Ronald Reagan.. His failure to cope with the economic crisis and the controversial pardon of Richard Nixon contributed to his undoing..
