Cette monnaie est appelée “Liberty” ou “Barber” du nom de son auteur, le graveur Charles E. Barber (1840-1917). Il est le sixième graveur en chef de l’US Mint (Chief engraver). En 1879, il succède à son père, William Barber, et sera en poste jusqu’à sa mort en 1917.
