D. Legros pensa che la viscontea di Châteaudun fosse sotto l'influenza dei conti di Blois e Chartres. Sotto Thibaut V le Bon, tre visconti si succedettero a Châteaudun: Hugues IV (1136-1166), Geoffroy IV (1166-1183) e Hugues V (1183-1215). La moneta diventa visconte da Geoffroy V (1215-1235) nel 1218.
