Bruto prima sceglie Pompeo contro Cesare. Dopo Farsalo (48 aC), il dittatore perdona e adotta Bruto. Questo complotta contro Cesare e partecipa al suo assassinio alle Idi di marzo (15 marzo 44 a.C.). Si è poi ritirato in Macedonia. Radunate le sue truppe con quelle di Cassio, affronta Marco Antonio e Ottave a Filippi nel 42 a.C.. Sconfitto, si suicida.
