BRUTTIUM - RHÉGIUM
(203-89 a.C.)
Rhegium (Rhegion), l'ultima città dello stivale italiano sul continente, situata sullo Stretto di Messina di fronte alla Sicilia, fu fondata intorno al 720 aC da coloni calcidesi. La città fu distrutta nel 387 aC da Dionisio di Siracusa. Fu comunque ricostruita da Dionisio il Giovane intorno al 356-350 aC I romani conquistarono la città nel 271 aC, ma furono rapidamente espulsi. Dopo il 203 aC e la fine della seconda guerra punica, Reggio cadde definitivamente sotto il dominio romano..
