Ce très rare triens correspond à la monnaie 1013 du Belfort, avec FAVS (les lettres A et V ligaturées) et la légende X SCI IVXLIANI au revers. La légende du revers semble variée quelque peu sur notre exemplaire, dans le X et avec les lettre ANI de la fin hors flan. Selon le Belfort, le style de ce triens est absolument contemporain de Sigebert (535-575), du Gévaudan.

Tutto ciò che sappiamo di Brioude per i tempi alti è da mettere in relazione con la comparsa del culto di Saint Julien. A partire dal IV secolo, il martirio di Saint Julien, protettore dell'Alvernia, e il successivo pellegrinaggio alla sua tomba, hanno conferito alla città la dimensione di capitale religiosa e politica regionale. La sorprendente importanza dei livelli merovingi portati alla luce durante i recenti scavi progettati intorno alla basilica attesta un'attività incessante in questi tempi in questi luoghi. Il numero, la varietà e la distribuzione delle emissioni monetarie coniate a Brioude, triens e deniers d'argent, i cui ritrovamenti si estendono dall'odierna Spagna fino alle isole britanniche, sono un'ulteriore testimonianza concreta dell'influenza del luogo.
