Kios era una ricca città commerciale all'ingresso della Propontis, fondata secondo la leggenda dagli Argonauti. La monetazione non sarebbe iniziata prima della seconda metà del IV secolo aC Faceva parte del Regno di Tracia sotto Lisimaco. La città fu distrutta da Filippo V di Macedonia nel 202 a.C..
