Commento
This type was manufactured following the law of March 31, 1847 and the decrees of April 9 and May 12, 1847. 545. 635 pieces were produced between 1848 and 1850. This type, demonetized by the law of December 28, 1850, and having become almost impossible to find, could have had great historical importance if the Latin Union had not sunk into the great European civil war of 1914.. In fact, producing a twenty-five franc coin aims to get closer to the three other major standards: the sovereign, the twenty-mark coin and the five-dollar coin.. All these coins, the most used by the populations of the countries considered, had fairly similar weights, namely, in fine gold, 7.31 g for the sovereign, 7.17 g for the 20 marks and 7.54 g for the five dollar coin.. We even know of attempts at French coins, struck under Napoleon III, with \\\"25 francs\\\" on one side and \\\"5 dollars\\\" on the other.. Belgium's direct economic ties were very strong with its two large neighbors, England and Germany, even if the majority of trade took place with France, whose monetary standard and coin name it had adopted.. The Belgian 25 Francs could have been a prophetic coin if the Latin Union had survived..
