Commento

Ce jeton ou petite médaille a été frappée à l'occasion du couronnement de François II comme duc de Bourgogne, duc de Brabant et comte de Flandre. Les Autrichiens furent chassés de Belgique plusieurs fois entre 1790 et 1794. Les archiducs Marie-Christine et Albert de Saxe étaient rentrés à Bruxelles en 1791. Il en furent à nouveau chassés en 1792. L'archiduc Charles, le frère de François II, fut nommé gouverneur en 1792. Il dut quitter Bruxelles la même année et y revint en 1793. François II lui-même visita les Pays-Bas en 1794 pour recevoir l'hommage pour le Brabant qui aurait dû être prêté en 1792. Il quitta Bruxelles peu avant l'arrivée, le 9 juillet 1794, des Français qui devaient conserver la Belgique jusqu'à 1814.
This token or small medal was struck on the occasion of the coronation of Francis II as Duke of Burgundy, Duke of Brabant, and Count of Flanders. The Austrians were expelled from Belgium several times between 1790 and 1794. Archdukes Maria Christina and Albert of Saxony had returned to Brussels in 1791. They were expelled again in 1792. Archduke Charles, Francis II's brother, was appointed governor in 1792. He had to leave Brussels that same year and returned in 1793. Francis II himself visited the Netherlands in 1794 to receive homage for Brabant, which should have been lent in 1792. He left Brussels shortly before the arrival, on July 9, 1794, of the French, who were to retain Belgium until 1814.
