Titolatura diritto : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Descrittivo diritto : Tête barbare diadémée, à droite ; diadème très saillant à la tranche perlée ; calotte et bouton occipital ; devant le profil, rameau renversé à trois baies.

Titolatura rovescio : [...]VS ET EIAC[...] RÉTROGRADE.
Descrittivo rovescio : Calice à deux anses, supportant un T renversé.
Commento
Ce triens est celui qui illustre le Belfort, n° 668. La plupart des autres exemplaires ont la légende ELAFIVS MONETA. Le sens de notre légende de revers ne semble pas avoir été compris.
La description du Belfort donne la légende décomposée en ...VS ET EIAT... ; il pourrait s’agir d’une association de deux monétaires, dont ELAFIVS ? Dans la série de triens du Belfort, seul celui-ci a la légende du revers rétrograde. Si seules les lettres étaient rétrogrades, et non le sens de lecture, la légende ...CALETESV... pourrait laisser un doute sur l’attribution au monétaire ELAFIVS. Certains triens avec le nom de monétaire au revers ont la légende BAN à l’exergue, pour BANASSAC.

MONETE DELLO MEROVINGI - BANASSAC (BANNACIACO) - Lozere
(VII secolo)
Durante i primi tre secoli della nostra era Banassac, conosciuta come Banaciacum, era la seconda città del Gévaudan dopo Javols (Gabalum). Si estende sull'attuale posizione del villaggio, lungo le rive dell'Urugne fino alla scarpa di Malepeyre. La sua prosperità è dovuta alla produzione di ceramiche sigillate. I laboratori di ceramica si trovavano sulle rive dell'Urugne. Il loro insediamento è facilitato dalla presenza in loco di argilla di buona qualità, dalla vicinanza di un fiume, dalla legna da ardere per i forni e dalla vicinanza di un asse di comunicazione che collega Millau a Javols. Banassac era di nuovo famoso nel Medioevo grazie alle sue zecche, che ne fecero uno dei centri più attivi del Gévaudan nel VI e VII secolo. Era la città dove veniva coniato il maggior numero di monete d'oro, sous e triens; alcuni coniati con le effigi di Childeberto II o Cariberto II re d'Aquitania e d'Austrasia. Secondo alcuni, la decima delle monete d'oro merovingie conservate fu coniata a Banassac. Il motivo ricorrente di Banassac è un vaso, forse un residuo di una tradizione della ceramica....
