Drachme bilingue. Pour ce type l’un des premiers du règne de Ménandre, nous avons quatorze exemplaires recensés dans les grandes collections. La Série 3 comprend quatre sous-groupes. Deux exemplaires font partie de la collection de la Bibliothèque nationale de France (5-6, pl. 26) dont un provenant de Mir Zakah. Sur cet exemplaire, en plus de l’égide sur l’épaule, nous découvrons la tête de Méduse posée à la pointe de l’épaule.

BACTRIA - REGNO DE BACTRIA - MENANDRO I SOTER

Menandro sarebbe, secondo O. Bopearachchi, il più grande monarca della Battriana. Originario di Alessandria nel Caucaso, sarebbe stato di sangue reale o apparteneva all'aristocrazia greca. Secondo Strabone (XI, 11), Menandro avrebbe esteso il potere greco in Battriana conquistando l'India nordoccidentale. La sua capitale sarebbe stata Sagala che non è stata ancora identificata. Sarebbe entrato in conflitto con Eucratide I, origine di una guerra civile che avrebbe rovinato la Battria. Alla morte di Eucratide, Menandro recuperò parte dei territori di quest'ultimo. Quando morì nel 130 a.C., il regno andò in pezzi.
