Commento

L’ECU ou European Currency Unit a été mise en place en 1979 afin de donner une certaine stabilité entre monnaies européennes. L’ECU n’est pas une monnaie mais un panier de monnaies, y compris la Livre Sterling. Pressentie pour être la nouvelle monnaie circulante européenne, l’appellation Euro lui a été préférée lors de son introduction en 1999.
The ECU, or European coin Unit, was established in 1979 to provide stability among European coins. The ECU is not a coin, but a basket of coins, including the pound sterling. Expected to be the new European circulating coin, the name Euro was preferred when it was introduced in 1999.
