Georges V fut le dernier roi de Hanovre. En 1866, suite à son soutien à l’Autriche, la Hanovre est envahit puis annexé par la Prusse.

Georges V è il figlio di Ernest Auguste di Hannover e Frederique, principessa di Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Divenne re di Hannover alla morte del padre il 18 novembre 1851 ma fu detronizzato nel 1866. Morì a Parigi nel 1878.
