Sur cet exemplaire les lettres ne sont pas visibles, seul le sypbole et le style de buste d’Athéna au revers permettent de restituer ce statère à l’atelier d’Argos Amphilochicum en Acarnanie.

ACARNANIA - ARGOS AMPHILOCHICUM
(IV-III secolo a.C.)
Argo è stata fondata da Amphilochos, un argivo. La città soprannominata Amphilochicum per distinguerla dall'Argo del Peloponneso si trovava in fondo al Golfo di Ambracia. La città ha dovuto affrontare diversi attacchi da Ambracia, il suo vicino. La città fu salvata più volte dagli Ateniesi, l'ultima volta nel 426 aC fu salvata dal generale Demostene. Sotto l'influenza di Corinto nel IV secolo, Argo come Ambracia apparteneva alla Lega Acarnanica. Intorno al 270 a.C. la città cadde sotto il dominio della Lega Etolica.
