Lorsque nous parlons de “frappe artisanale”, c’est-à-dire d’une frappe effectuée manuellement, c’est pour plusieurs caractéristiques de la monnaie.
Tout d’abord les coins, et notamment celui de revers, ont des champs remplis de défauts, rayures, stries, chocs qui sont indubitablement dans le coin et non pas postérieurs à la frappe. Ensuite l’avers est d’aspect brillant, comme s’il avait été astiqué, ce qui n’est pas le cas du revers, mat et normal ; on peut penser que, horrifié par l’aspect de sa frappe avec un coin massacré, le monnayeur a essayé d’améliorer l’aspect pour rendre l’exemplaire présentable au décisionnaire.
Dernier détail, un examen très attentif montre sur les deux côtés la présence de microscopiques stries circulaires, davantage visibles au revers, certainement vestiges d’un flan fabriqué individuellement au tour. Ces stries rappellent celles observées sur certains essais de Bazor frappés à un très faible nombre d’exemplaires ou, dans la Collection Pierre, les revers vierges des 100 francs Tunisie de Bazor.
Il nous semble donc que ces caractéristiques ne peuvent pas être produites par une frappe mécanique en série, même en série très réduite.
Nous sommes donc probablement en présence d’un véritable prototype fabriqué à quelques exemplaires. D’une insigne rareté.

These striations are reminiscent of those observed on certain Bazor tests struck in very small numbers or, in the Pierre Collection, the blank reverses of the 100 Tunisian francs of Bazor.
It therefore seems to us that these characteristics cannot be produced by mechanical striking in series, even in very small series..
We are therefore probably in the presence of a real prototype manufactured in a few examples.. Of remarkable rarity
