SICILIA - CENTURIPAE

Centuripe (Kentoripa o Centuripæ), al centro della Sicilia, è posta nella valle di Symæthus ai piedi dell'Etna. La città sembra essere stata fondata nell'VIII secolo a.C.. Condivisa tra le zone di influenza cartaginese e siracusana, cadde definitivamente sotto la dipendenza di quest'ultima nel IV secolo a.C.. Prima guerra punica, Centuripe si sottomise nel 263 a.C. un intenso periodo di sviluppo economico e artistico sotto la dominazione romana.
