Childéric II est le roi des Francs d'Austrasie de 662 à 673, puis roi de tous les Francs de 673 à 675.
Né vers 655, il est le fils cadet du roi Clovis II et de la reine Bathilde. Il accède au trône d'Austrasie à l'âge de 8 ans. La régence du pouvoir est exercée par son conseiller, le maire du palais Wulfoald. En 673, après la déposition de son frère Thierry III, Childéric unifie les royaumes Francs de Neustrie et d'Austrasie sous son sceptre. Il fait placer son frère au monastère de Saint-Denis pour le protéger de ceux qui l'avaient renversé. Il prend pour conseiller spirituel l'évêque Léger d'Autun. En 674, l'évêque désapprouve le mariage du roi avec sa cousine germaine Bilichilde. Il critique sévèrement le roi. Furieux, Childéric fait enfermer Léger au monastère de Luxeuil. D'un caractère généreux et emporté, le roi ne fait pas l'unanimité chez les grands. Ainsi, en 675, les Neustriens organisent un complot pour le supprimer. Le chef de la cabale se nomme Bodilon, un noble franc que le roi avait fait battre à un poteau. Dans la forêt de Livry près de Chelles, avec ses amis Ingobert et Amalbert, Bodilon profite que le roi chasse pour le tuer avec son épouse, la reine Bilichilde, alors enceinte. L'apprenant, les conseillers du roi - Wulfoald en tête - s'enfuient en Austrasie. Le roi Childéric n'avait que 20 ans et ne laisse aucun héritier. Son frère Thierry lui succède.

Questa serie è stata incisa da Thomas Bernard ed è interrotta, per questo autore, dal segno di Luigi XIV. I seguenti gettoni sono incisi da Nicolas Gatteaux per Luigi XV, Duvivier per Luigi XVI, Puymaurin e Gayrard per Luigi XVII, Puymaurin e Depaulis per Luigi XVIII. La serie è spesso attribuita a Jean Dassier sulla fede di Forrer ma corregge la sua affermazione nel suo volume VIII e conferma gli archivi della Monnaie de Paris che specificano che la serie è stata commissionata da Monsieur de Launay. Esistono diverse emissioni, in rame o ottone, di peso variabile ma coerenti per serie, le matrici di rovescio a volte sono varie. La classificazione dei re avviene secondo l'uso antico, in tre razze successive. Notiamo l'esistenza di un token molto raro che spiega le sigle che abbiamo visto solo in una serie in ottone. La confezione di questa serie era in un tubo di legno. Ovviamente è molto difficile ricostruirlo e va notato che i diversi gettoni hanno rarità molto diverse, essendo stati probabilmente acquistati a pezzi dal pubblico, favorendo i buoni re. Esiste almeno una serie in argento, forse apocrifa, completata fino a Napoleone III con gettoni per tutti i regimi successivi, compresa la Rivoluzione e Napoleone I, vedi MONNAIES 28, n° 1395.
