Les auteurs du Roman Provincial Coinage ont répertorié deux exemplaires pour ce type avec un poids moyen de 14,30 g. Notre exemplaire est de même coin de droit que l’exemplaire du British Museum (BMC. 6 = RPC, pl. 148, n° 3852) avec le petit défaut caractéristique sur le mot ANTIOXOY sous la tête.

Cronistoria
REGNO DI COMMAGENA - ANTIOCO IV EPIPAHNES
(38-72)
Commagene, situata nel nord della Siria e sostenuta dall'Eufrate, era un regno fondato nel 162 aC La regione fu annessa da Tiberio nel 17. Vent'anni dopo, Antioco IV, amico di Caligola, fece restaurare il suo regno. Il monarca non perse tempo a litigare con il suo protettore e dovette fuggire. Claude, nel 41, lo restituisce alle sue prerogative. Per i successivi trent'anni Antioco fu un fedele alleato di Roma. Dapprima diede il suo appoggio a Nerone, poi si unì a Vespasiano nel 69, inviando truppe ausiliarie a Tito durante l'assedio di Gerusalemme nel 70. Due anni dopo fu accusato di cospirazione con i Parti e dovette abdicare. Terminò i suoi giorni a Roma.
