Construites sous le premier Empire, les lignes de défense de Torres Vedras sont constituées de lignes de casemates (600) et de fortins (152). Ce système de fortification fut construit en secret par le duc de Wellington pour défendre Lisbonne pendant la Guerre d'Espagne et du Portugal.
