Arados era entrato nell'orbita seleucide dopo la battaglia di Ipsos nel 301 aC La città si emancipò da questa tutela nel 259 aC Arados data quindi le sue monete a questa nuova era. Sotto il regno di Alexandre I Bala, distrusse Marathus, suo vicino e vecchio nemico. Da questa data la città emette una monetazione civica molto importante (137-45 dC) che durerà fino al periodo cesareo..
