François Vatable, né à Gamaches en Picardie dans les dernières années du XVe siècle est décédé à Paris le 15 mars 1547. Dès 1530, il est nommé par François Ier à la chaire d’Hébreu du Collège de France nouvellement créé et qui devait notamment suppléer à l’Université pour les cours de grec, hébreu et latin. La faveur royale lui accorda par la suite le titre d’abbé de Bellozane dans le diocèse de Rouen avec les revenus afférents. Bellozane est une maison de chanoines prémontrés du diocèse de Rouen.

In 1530, he was appointed by François I to the chair of Hebrew at the newly created Collège de France, which was intended to supplement the University's teaching of Greek, Hebrew, and Latin. NORMANDIE (NOBLESSE ET VILLES DE...)
La Normandia copre da un lato la regione di Rouen o l'alta Normandia intorno alla valle della Senna e dall'altro la bassa Normandia intorno a Caen con il Cotentin e il Pays d'Auge. Abitata fin dal Paleolitico, la valle della Senna è un'importante via di commercio e abitazione, ed è poi occupata da vari popoli celtici come i Calètes, i Véliocasses o gli Aulerques Éburovices. Romana, passa poi nel regno di Syagrius prima di essere occupata dai Franchi dal 486. Devastata dalle incursioni dei Normanni, la regione fu riconosciuta da Carlo il Semplice.. I Duchi di Normandia erano allora alleati dei primi Capetingi e nell'XI secolo erano a capo di uno degli stati più ricchi e meglio organizzati amministrativamente d'Europa, come dimostra anche l'espansione verso l'Italia meridionale e l'Inghilterra. Nella monarchia francese, la Normandia mantiene le sue istituzioni, ad esempio con il mantenimento dello Scacchiere, o il suo diritto consuetudinario codificato nel "Grand Coutumier". Profondamente colpita durante le guerre di religione, la Normandia ha visto scomparire le sue ultime vestigia di indipendenza nel XVII secolo in seguito alle rivolte dei "Scalzi". L'industria tessile fu favorita sotto Colbert che diede un nuovo impulso economico alla Normandia.
