Commento
On November 205, 1812, insurgent troops led by General José María Morelos captured the city of Oaxaca, which was then held by troops loyal to the Viceroy of New Spain. Beginning in 1811, Morelos minted coins of half a real, 1 real, 2 real, and 8 reales for circulation in southern Mexico. These crudely struck copper coins were supposed to be redeemable in gold and silver.
