Commento

Cet exemplaire est à distinguer des traditionnels bronzes épigraphes EPENOS. Le style du portrait ainsi que le traitement du revers fait penser à une imitation. Le droit est anépigraphe, sans aucune légende devant le visage alors que ces monnaies ont normalement la légende EPENOS. L’oiseau du revers, habituellement assez détaillé, ressemble plutôt à un cavalier ailé très stylisé, proche du papillon !.
This example should be distinguished from the traditional EPENOS epigraph bronzes. The style of the portrait as well as the treatment of the reverse suggests an imitation. The right is anepigraph, without any legend in front of the face while these coins normally have the legend EPENOS. The bird on the reverse, usually quite detailed, looks more like a very stylized winged rider, close to a butterfly!
