Cette médaille, une reproduction d’un Tétradrachme de Philippe II de Macédoine, est le 196e exemplaire sur 500 exemplaires frappés par la Monnaie de Paris.
La reproduction du revers peut être rapprochée du groupe II au revers du jeune cavalier nu à droite, (c. 348/7- c. 329/8) de la première série au foudre horizontal et au « N » avec les bandelettes et la palme stylisée tenue par le cavalier.
This medal, a reproduction of a Tetradrachm of Philip II of Macedon, is the 196th example out of 500 examples struck by the Paris Mint. MACEDONIA - REGNO DI MACEDONIA - FILIPPO II

Filippo di Macedonia era fratello di Perdicca III (365-359 dC), entrambi figli di Aminta III (381-369 dC). Il loro fratello maggiore Alessandro II fu assassinato da Tolomeo che ricevette la reggenza per Perdicca III e Filippo II (369-365 dC). Tolomeo fu infine ucciso da Filippo II nel 365 a.C. mentre suo fratello morì combattendo gli Illiri sei anni dopo. Filippo II iniziò la conquista del mondo greco dal 357 a.C. Fu l'infaticabile nemico di Atene e Demostene. Conquistò Anfipoli nel 357 a.C. e impiegò vent'anni per conquistare la Grecia. La vittoria di Chéronée coronò la sua opera nel 338 prima di J. - C. Fu assassinato nel 336 prima di J. - C., su istigazione della sua prima moglie, Olimpia, che aveva paura di vedere suo figlio Alessandro, espropriato del trono di Macedonia dopo la nascita di un maschio da seconde nozze.
