Johann Peter Eckermann (1792-1854) est un écrivain, poète et mémorialiste. Il est connu pour ses Conversations avec Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832), qu'il a recueillies de 1822 à la mort de l'écrivain, d’où cette médaille commémorant ces deux personnages.
