Cronistoria

ITALIA - REGNO DELLE DUE SICILIE - FRANCESCO II

(22/05/1859-21/10/1860)

Francesco II (16/01/1836-28/12/1894) era figlio di Ferdinando II e Maria Cristina di Savoia. Nel 1859 sposò Maria Sofia di Baviera. Successe al padre nel 1859, ma non riuscì ad imporre le necessarie riforme. Garibaldi sbarca in Sicilia alla testa della spedizione dei "Mille" e costringe François alla fuga. Dopo la sconfitta di Gaeta nel 1861, si ritirò a Roma, poi a Parigi dopo il 1870. Morì in esilio a Trento nel 1894.
