Leopoldo I (1640-1705) succedette al padre, Ferdinando III nel 1657. Dovette affrontare la minaccia turca. Vienna fu nuovamente assediata e liberata dall'esercito di soccorso comandato da Giovanni III Sobieski. Kremnitz era al confine dell'Impero. Quando morì nel 1705, l'Ungheria si ribellò e gli succedette Giuseppe I, suo figlio maggiore..
