La Monnaie de Paris frappe les monnaies des Français depuis l’an 864. Ses trésors, qui appartiennent au patrimoine, et son savoir-faire sont à l’origine de cette collection qui, de l’époque romaine à aujourd’hui retrace, en une vingtaine de pièces l’Histoire de France.
La monnaie Vercingétorix représente un Satère en argent, circulant autrefois de la Grèce à la Gaule. Ce furent les premières monnaies à avoir fait l’objet de contrefaçons. Le visage de Vercingétorix qu’on repère sur certaines d’entre elles est sans doute inspiré d’Apollon.
