Droit et revers indiquent la valeur de la monnaie. Le protomé de taureau au droit indique la moitié de l’unité, l’hémidrachme. Tandis qu’au revers, les trois épis sont pour trois oboles. Une hémidrachme correspond à trois oboles (CQFD !) Les mêmes caractéristiques se retrouvent sur les monnaies de Byzance de la même époque (GC. 1583 avec un trident au revers).

Calcedonia, colonia megariana, fu fondata nel VII secolo aC sulla costa asiatica della Propontide proprio di fronte a Bisanzio. Dopo la campagna di Cimone in Tracia, Calcedonia entrò nella Lega di Delo e vi rimase fino al 413 aC La città passò poi sotto il dominio dei Lacedemoni. Dopo la battaglia di Cnide nel 394 a.C., vinta da Conon, si oppose a Sparta. Dopo la pace del Gran Re nel 387 aC (Antalcida), tornò sotto il dominio persiano prima di allearsi con Tebe nel 364 aC Al tempo dell'invasione di Alessandro, la città rimase fedele a Dario III e non riconobbe Alessandro fino al 330 aC..
