Exemplaire frappé sur flan relativement large, avec de légers éclatements de frappe. Droit et revers bien centrés, mais revers un peu confus

Descrittivo rovescio : Cheval étiré galopant à droite, conduit par les restes d’un aurige déstructuré au-dessus ; entre les jambes du cheval, un globule ; les restes de la roue du char sous l’aurige.
Commento
Ce statère appartient à la deuxième phase du monnayage ambien ; les flans ont tendance à être plus étroit et à s'épaissir, mais les monnaies sont toujours bifaces, avec une tête stylisée au droit. Ces monnaies circulèrent aussi sur les côtes anglaises ; il est souvent difficile de distinguer les frappe continentales des insulaires.

GALLIA BELGICA - AMBIANI (Regione di Amiens)

Il loro nome, "quelli che sono su entrambe le sponde del fiume", indica che gli Ambiens, popolo della Gallia belga, occupavano entrambe le sponde della Somme (Samara). Il loro territorio corrisponde all'attuale dipartimento della Somme. I loro vicini erano i Calètes, i Morin, gli Atrébates, i Bellovaques. Il loro oppidum principale era Samarobriva (vicino ad Amiens). Hanno partecipato alla coalizione dei popoli belgi nel 57 aC e hanno fornito un contingente di diecimila uomini. Nel 52 aC, fu un contingente di cinquemila uomini che diedero per l'esercito di soccorso dedicato allo sgombero di Alesia. Cesare (BG. II, 4, 15; VII, 75; VIII, 7). Strabone (G. IV, 5).
