Ce jeton est frappé après la fondation de Dakar en 1854 qui devient un port très important de l'Afrique Occidentale Française, point de passage ou étape pour descendre vers le golfe de Guinée ou pour entamer la traversée en vue de rallier Natal, Bahia, Rio ou Buenos Aires. Nous n'avons pas d'informations sur cette société de remorquage dont le siège social était situé à Paris.

AFRIQUE FRANÇAISE - SÉNÉGAL
Il Senegal è sempre stato un'importante pietra miliare commerciale fin dalla fine del XIV secolo con lo sviluppo delle costruzioni marittime (caravelle), punto di passaggio obbligato delle navi costiere per raggiungere il Golfo di Guinea prima di doppiare il Capo di Buona Speranza o partire alla conquista di Sud America. Colonia francese dal 1626, i francesi vi fondarono Saint-Louis nel 1638 e si stabilirono sull'isola di Gorée e Casamance. La regione fu spesso contesa con l'Inghilterra e durante il XVIII secolo e le guerre napoleoniche, il Senegal fu occupato dagli inglesi. Restituita definitivamente alla Francia dai trattati di Parigi del 1814 e 1815, la colonia conosce un rapido sviluppo e nel 1854 viene fondata Dakar. Faidherbe, governatore del Senegal, pacifica la regione combattendo i Mori ed espellendo i Toutcouleurs (1854-1865). La pacificazione durò fino al 1898. Dopo l'indipendenza, Léopold Sedar Senghor divenne presidente della Repubblica del Senegal tra il 1960 e il 1980.
