Billet spécimen par mention SPECIMEN manuscrite à l'encre rouge, perforation à droite, numérotation en A.1/0002 et numéro de caissier 1 (caché dans le centre du bouclier du revers) à l'encre noire. Ce billet présente aussi une correction au crayon de la faute d'orthographe dans la valeur faciale et illustre le type dans le KM Indochine.

DJIBUTI
L'apertura del Canale di Suez ha conferito al Golfo di Aden un'importanza strategica senza eguali all'uscita dal Mar Rosso. Gli inglesi controllarono Aden, i francesi acquistarono Obock nel 1862 mentre gli armatori marsigliesi si stabilirono a Tadjoura. Nel 1884 fu approvato un protettorato francese con i potentati locali. Lo stesso è stato fatto con i capi somali. Il colonnello Lagarde fondò Gibuti nel 1888. La capitale fu trasferita nel 1891 da Obock a Gibuti. Avendo lo status di colonia nel 1894, la regione prese il nome di Côte Française des Somalis nel 1896.
